Car keys

Lost the only car key? The car stays where it is.

A lost key at Waikele Center or the Costco lot on Ka Uka Blvd does not need a tow truck. We cut the new key from the car's own lock and program it right there in the stall.

  • No key left at allWe read the lock and cut a key to match it.
  • Push-start and chip keysPaired with your car right where it sits. A lost fob can be erased so it stops working.
  • Key broke off inside the lockThe broken half comes out and a fresh key gets cut.
  • Ignition will not turnWorn ignitions repaired or replaced at the car.

Know your year and model before you dial; it speeds things up.

When you call

What happens after you dial

  1. You tell us what is stuck

Car, house, shop or safe, plus where you are. A cross street or a store name is plenty.

  2. You get a price and a time

We give you the price before we set off, and roughly when we will get there.

  3. We check it at the lock

Sometimes the lock is not what it sounded like. Then a revised figure comes before any work starts.

  4. Done, then you pay

You test the key or the door yourself. Then we settle up.

Not urgent? We also book set times, so a rekey can wait until you are home from work.

Locks around here

What kind of locks do homes in Waipahu, Pearl City and Aiea have?

Mostly older ones, on single-family doors, with pockets of condos and newer townhomes. The census puts the median home in Aiea at 1967 and in Waipahu at 1971, with Pearl City close behind at 1974. Locks that age tend to have worn cylinders, bolts that drag and keys that have been copied for decades. Waikele and Royal Kunia are newer, built around 1994 and 1989, so the work there leans toward rekeys after a sale and matched keys for townhome entries. By Pearlridge, half the homes sit in buildings of 20 units or more, where condo doors and mailbox locks follow the building's rules. The sheet below breaks it down town by town.

Homes by town96797 / 96782 / 96701
Aiea96701
86% of homes are detached houses and the median one was built in 1967, the oldest here. Original deadbolts that stick, cylinders worn smooth and keys that only work on the third try.
Pearl City96782
Mostly houses (63% detached), median year built 1974. Many owners are rekeying after a purchase or swapping a tired lockset for a new deadbolt.
Waimalu, by Pearlridge96701
Half of all homes sit in buildings of 20 units or more. Condo unit doors and mailbox locks, where the building's rules decide what hardware goes on.
Waikele96797
About half the homes are in multi-unit buildings, median year built 1994. Townhome entries, garage side doors and a lot of matched keys.
Royal Kunia and Village Park96797
78% owner-occupied, the highest of these towns, median year built 1989. Rekeys on move-in day and deadbolt upgrades on houses bought from someone else.
Waipio96797
Nearly half the homes are low-rise multi-unit buildings, median year built 1984. Unit doors, mailbox locks and sliding door latches.

Car lockouts in the heat

How hot does a locked car get on Oahu?

Hot enough that a car lockout should not wait. Oahu's daytime highs run about 81°F in January and reach 88°F in August and September, and NHTSA says a parked car's cabin can warm by 20 degrees in as little as 10 minutes. A phone, a laptop or the groceries on the seat bake fast, and so does anyone waiting beside the car. So call early, not after an hour of trying every door. With a child or a pet inside, 911 comes first. Otherwise, tell us the parking lot, the car's color and the nearest store entrance, and we head straight there to get the door open.

Questions

What people ask before they call

Questions people around Waipahu and Pearl City search before calling a locksmith.

Is calling a mobile locksmith worth the money?

When you are stuck, usually yes. A shop can only help once the lock or the car gets to the shop. We bring the tools to the driveway, the parking stall or the office door, so a lost car key never becomes a tow and a lockout never becomes a broken window.

Is it cheaper to call an auto locksmith or a dealer?

For most cars the locksmith comes out ahead, mainly because nothing gets towed. A dealer needs the car on its lot and often orders the key in. We do all the key work in the stall where you parked. Give us the car details and compare our price before anyone drives over.

Can you cut a new key from just the lock?

Yes. With no key at all, we can read the lock and cut a key to match it. That works for most house locks and for most car doors and ignitions. Cars with chip keys or push-start fobs then need the new key programmed, which we also do at the car.

Can you pair a new fob with my car on site?

Most of the time, yes. We program new remotes and push-start fobs on site and can erase a lost one from the car so it no longer starts it. Name your car when you ring and we confirm your car is one we handle before heading over.

How do I know if a locksmith is legit?

Ask for a price on the phone and see whether you get a straight number. Be wary of a quote that only says "it depends," or one that jumps once work starts. We give a figure before we leave and confirm it at the lock. If the job changes, you hear the new figure first.

Are there locks you cannot open without damage?

Fewer than people think, but some locks do not open without damage. Safes are the main one: a locked safe usually gets drilled open. We try non-destructive routes first and tell you before any drill comes out. Some high-security cylinders are the same story, and we say so on the phone.
