What the visit is for

Four home lock jobs that cover most visits

Most calls fit one of these. If yours does not, describe the door and we will say what it needs.

  1. Rekey

Same lock, same door. We swap the pins inside and cut new keys, so any key still floating around is useless. If the hardware still works, this is the low-cost route.

  2. New deadbolt

Fitted where a door only had a knob, or swapped in for a tired one. We drill or adjust the door, set the strike, and test it until the bolt throws without a push.

  3. Lock repair

Keys that stick, bolts that drag, knobs that wobble. Often a clean, an adjustment or one worn part, not a whole new lock.

  4. Mailbox lock

Lost the little key, or moved in with no key at all? We change the mailbox lock and hand you a fresh pair.

Home lock jobs

What we do at the house

  • Rekey after keys go missingLost set, keys from the last owner, a contractor who never handed one back. New pins end all of it.
  • One key for every doorFront, back and garage entry set to the same key, so the ring gets lighter.
  • Deadbolts fitted and fixedSingle-cylinder and keypad deadbolts, lined up so the bolt seats deep in the jamb.
  • Broken key removedThe snapped piece comes out of the cylinder, and you get a key that works.
  • Mailbox locks changedWall units, pedestal boxes and the single box at the curb.

Have this ready when you call

  1. How many doors, and whether the garage entry counts.
  2. The brand on the lock, if you can see it. Kwikset and Schlage are the usual ones.
  3. A working key, if you still have one. It makes a rekey quicker.
  4. A good time. Home locks can wait for a booked slot after work.

The price comes during the call, before the truck leaves. Rekeys start from $65 per lock.

Before it fails

Six signs a lock at home wants attention

Locks rarely quit without warning. These are the early hints, and each one is cheaper to fix now than after the door stops opening.

  • Key

    You have to jiggle it

Worn pins or a worn key. A rekey with fresh keys often solves both in one visit.

  • Bolt

The bolt drags or stops short

Usually the door has moved, not the lock. Shifting the strike lets the bolt seat fully again.

  • Knob

    The knob wobbles

Loose screws on the inside rose, or a cracked part behind it. Tightened or replaced before it falls apart in your hand.

  • Cylinder

    Key turns, nothing moves

Something broke between the cylinder and the bolt. That one needs looking at soon, because the next stage is a door that will not open.

  • Mailbox

    Only one mailbox key left

Lose it and the mail piles up. Changing the lock now costs less than waiting.

  • Keys

    Keys you cannot account for

Old roommates, past owners, a dog walker from two years ago. If you cannot list who has one, a rekey settles the question.

Hawaii crime figures

Burglary rose in Hawaii last year. What makes a deadbolt hold?

Long screws in the strike plate, more than a fancy lock. The state Attorney General's 2025 figures show Hawaii crime down 11.6% from 2024 and car theft down 21.9%, yet burglary rose 7.2%. A deadbolt does its job when the bolt is thrown all the way, into a strike plate held by screws long enough to bite the framing behind the jamb. Plenty of strike plates go in with short screws that only grip the soft trim, and one hard kick tears them out. Swapping in longer screws takes minutes and costs little. We do it whenever we fit or service a deadbolt, and you can ask for it on its own visit.

Home lock questions

Rekeys, explained plainly

What does it cost to have a deadbolt installed?

It depends on the door. Swapping a new deadbolt into an existing hole is quick. A door with only a knob needs drilling for the bolt and the strike, which takes longer. Hardware matters too, from a basic keyed deadbolt to a keypad model. You get one figure for the job on the phone.

Is there any lock that can't be rekeyed?

A few. Very cheap locks are sometimes built so the cylinder cannot be opened without wrecking it. Some keypad models have no key cylinder worth rekeying, and certain high-security brands need parts from the maker. We tell you which kind you have before quoting.

What does a rekey run per lock?

Ours start from $65 per lock. Where yours lands depends on how many locks there are and whether they need cleaning or parts. You get one figure for the whole house on the phone, so there is no surprise at the door.

Rekey or new locks: which costs less?

Rekeying, nearly every time, because the hardware you already own stays put. New locks earn their price when the old ones are failing, when you want a deadbolt where there was none, or when you just want a different look.
