How Waipahu Lock & Key works before, during and after the job

A short read on the few rules we keep, when we come right away and when we book a time, and how we treat a lock that is not ours. It covers every call in Waipahu, Pearl City, Aiea, Waipio and Kunia.

Hawaii time Open 6 AM to 9:30 PM daily

Now or later

Some jobs can't wait. Others are better booked.

Say which kind of job it is, and the timing gets settled during the call.

We head out now

Anything that leaves you stuck. We give you a rough arrival time when you call and keep you posted if traffic on H-1 changes it.

  • A lockout at home, at the car or at work
  • The only car key lost or broken
  • A key snapped off inside a lock
  • An ignition that will not turn

We book a time

Jobs that are fine for a day or two. Pick a slot anywhere from 6 AM to 9:30 PM, including before your shop opens or after you get home.

  • Rekeys once you have moved in or lost a set
  • New deadbolts and lock repairs
  • Mailbox locks
  • Safe combination changes and keypad repairs

Calling after 9:30 PM? Send the contact form with the details and we answer it when we open at 6 AM.

Two firm rules

Who can ask us to open a shop or a safe

Most calls need nothing more than a location and a description of the lock. Two kinds of job need one extra thing from you, and we will not start without it.

Business doors

The owner or a manager says yes

A storefront, office or warehouse door belongs to a business, and the person standing outside it may not be the one who decides. Before we open, rekey or replace anything on a commercial door, the owner or a manager gives the OK. They can be at the door or on the phone.

That protects you as much as anyone. A locksmith who skips the question at your shop would skip it at a stranger's.

Safes

You show the safe is yours

Getting into a locked safe usually takes a drill, and whatever is inside matters to someone. So before we start, we need to see proof that it belongs to you.

  • The receipt or an invoice for the safe
  • The manual or registration card with its serial number
  • Estate or will paperwork for a safe that was passed down
  • For a business safe, the owner's or manager's OK

At the lock

How we treat a door that isn't ours

  1. The gentle way first. Picking, bypassing or decoding comes before any drill. Most house and car locks open with no mark at all.
  2. Damage only on your yes. If a lock or a safe has to be drilled, we tell you why, what it costs and what gets replaced afterward. Then you decide.
  3. The price holds. The figure from the call stands, as long as the lock is what you described. If it does, you hear the new number before we continue.
  4. You test it. New keys get tried in every lock they belong to, with you watching, before we pack up.
  5. No upsell. If a rekey does the job, we won't sell you a new lock. If a lock is past saving, we explain why.

After sunset

What changes when you call a locksmith after dark?

Mostly how fast we can find you and see the lock. Honolulu's earliest sunsets come in late November and early December, a little before 5:50 PM, and even in early July the sun is down by about 7:20 PM. We take calls until 9:30 PM, so in winter almost four hours of our working day happen in the dark, under a streetlight or a porch light. Two things speed up a night call. Switch on the porch or garage light if you can reach the switch. In a parking lot, tell us what the car sits next to, because a lit sign or a store entrance is easier to spot than a stall number.

Know what you need? Call and we take it from there.

A price and a time come first, every time. Questions about the rules are welcome too.
